Founded 1949. Main function: Collecting all literature in the Sorbian languages, about Sorbs and about Upper and Lower Lusatia. The library is also the scientific library of the Sorbian Institute and due to exchange agreements with libraries abroad has a valuable collection of books and magazines in Slavic languages and relating to Slavic studies.
\nThe library was founded from the remains of the Ma\u0107ica Serbska library and expanded by purchases and gifts from the private libraries of Ota Wi\u0107az (Otto Lehmann), Pawo\u0142 Nedo (Paul Nedo), M\u011br\u0107in Nowak-Njechor\u0144ski (Martin Nowak-Neumann) und Jan Me\u0161kank (Jan Meschgang). Since it was founded in 1958, the publisher Domowina-Verlag has regularly provided the Sorbian Central Library with deposit copies.
\nLibrary data: 110 000 media, of which 27 000 magazine volumes; stand-alone publications: 13 000 in Sorbian languages, 25 000 in Slavic languages.<\/p>\n
