The meeting will focus on interdisciplinary exchange and networking among young scholars who are currently engaged in or planning studies that are regionally or thematically related to the Sorbs/Wends.
This two-day event provides participants with a forum to present and discuss their own research projects. Contributions from fields such as linguistics, cultural studies or history are just as welcome as transdisciplinary projects in comparative minority studies or digital humanities. Artistic or musical contributions are explicitly encouraged as well. For the presentation of the respective research projects (e.g. papers, bachelor‘s, master‘s, or doctoral theses) various formats can be chosen. Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the conditions and prospects of interdisciplinary collaboration.
The meeting will be held in German, Upper and Lower Sorbian, and English.

Program:

Freitag, 02.05.2025

09:00-09:30 Arrival

09:30-09:45 Welcome and organizational matters

09:45-10:15 Warm-up

10:15-10:30 Coffee break

10:30-12:00 Panel 1 – Language and regional developement, moderation: Sophie Rädel

Alexander Torka

Antonia Sipeer

Daniel Häfner-Kamjenaŕ

12:00-13:15 Lunch break

13:15-15:15 Panel 2 – Language and language learning, moderation: Jan Bogusz

Alena Pawlikec

Denise Hornig

Sophie Rädel

Sofija Brězanec

15:30-16:00 Coffee break

16:00-17:00 Meet the Scientist with researchers of the Sorbian Institute

17:00-18:00 Visit at Serbski muzej

19:00- open Dinner

Samstag, 03.05.2025

09:00-09:15 Welcome

09:15-10:15 Panel 3 – Sorbian in multilingual contexts, Moderation: Marleen Schindler

Lydija Matikec

Bartłomiej Szawulak

Jan Bogusz

10:15-10:30 Kaffeepause

10:30-12:15 Panel 4 – Socio-cultural phenomena in Lusatia, moderation: Lydija Matikec

Jordan Oelke

Marleen Schindler

Ana María Bergholz

12:15-12:30 Closing discussion

12:30-13:00 Lunch break

13:00-14:00 Discussion on a sorabistic research colloquium

The Sorbian Institute is hosting the fifth meeting for early-career researchers in the field of Sorbian studies.
