Sorbian Institute’s summer course in Sorbian language and culture fully booked

A total of 43 people aged between 21 and 74 from ten countries have registered for this year’s International Summer Course in Sorbian Language and Culture at the Sorbian Institute. Most participants come from Germany and Poland, and the Czech Republic is also well represented. In addition, there are participants from Austria, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and the USA. Around half of the participants are students. Some wish to pursue a career in Slavic studies with a focus on Sorbian. Others have personal motivations, such as Sorbian ancestry or a Sorbian partner.

Linguist Fabian Kaulfürst, who is once again leading the course, says: “We are once again delighted to welcome people of different generations from all over the world, each with their own unique motivations. This creates the ideal conditions for enriching encounters and lasting learning success.”

The course, which is aimed at Slavicists, students of Slavic studies from Germany and abroad, and anyone interested in Sorbian, will take place this year from 24 July to 8 August at the Sorbian Boarding School and the Sorbian Grammar School in Bautzen/Budyšin. The Sorbian Institute offers this intensive course every two years.
