Sorbian Central Library

Founded 1949. Main function: Collecting all literature in the Sorbian languages, about Sorbs and about Upper and Lower Lusatia. The library is also the scientific library of the Sorbian Institute and due to exchange agreements with libraries abroad has a valuable collection of books and magazines in Slavic languages and relating to Slavic studies.
The library was founded from the remains of the Maćica Serbska library and expanded by purchases and gifts from the private libraries of Ota Wićaz (Otto Lehmann), Pawoł Nedo (Paul Nedo), Měrćin Nowak-Njechorński (Martin Nowak-Neumann) und Jan Meškank (Jan Meschgang). Since it was founded in 1958, the publisher Domowina-Verlag has regularly provided the Sorbian Central Library with deposit copies.
Library data: 110 000 media, of which 27 000 magazine volumes; stand-alone publications: 13 000 in Sorbian languages, 25 000 in Slavic languages.

In the Virtual reading hall you will find all the offers of the Sorbian Central Library and the holdings of the Sorbian Cultural Archive at a glance.
